Wonderful site you have! I have recently started thinking of taking a Route 66 trip just for the sake of my photographic enjoyment, and came across your site; I developed my love of travel from my father as well, and to this day, love the open road! While I have stayed at many of those chain hotels/motels, I still love the motor inns the best; Three motels come to mind, although they are not on Route 66 and maybe not quite the same genre: Budget Host in Cortez, Co, Budget Host in Livingston, MT (because we liked the one in Cortez) and the Badlands Inn in Badlands National Park, SD; There is nothing like experiencing a place when staying at one of those motels; The big fancy chains will never compare in that aspect! Here's to more great travels!

i remember driving through Flagstaff, AZ and seeing my first Rt 66 sign; that was a great site; i have always thought about being there and at that momemt i WAS there; we ate at a diner in town and walked around the street, even though it was in the high 80's;Great Memories;

Thank you, Laurel; This is a wonderful site and it brings back so many memories; I fell in love with Route 66 during the time of the old television series, and the romance has just grown more through the years; I eventually got to live in Joplin, Missouri and got to drive on "Old 66" on weekend trips; One thrill was driving from Joplin to Tulsa on 66; My son (who was a teen-ager at the time) was as enthralled by The Road as I was; Even when I moved from Joplin to Las Vegas, Nevada, I made sure I found some remnants of The Road to drive on; Again, a big thanks for this; I'll make sure I visit here frequently;

I drove Route 66 with my parents in the 1950s,and then with a buddy in 1964 and solo several times; I took my wife and children on the interstate in 1982, but it was just not the same America; The signs and curio shops and motor hotels are mostly history; Thanks for your site;
